Mary Williams
I graduated in 1994 from Fanshawe College, London, Ontario with a diploma in fine art. My strength was in found objects sculpture. I was accepted to Western University with plans to continue my studies.
That summer I experienced symptoms that left me bedridden and unable to continue my studies. I have Morgellon's syndrome a disease believed to be caused by pesticides. This caused me to become a passionate advocate for the environment.
Still very ill, I moved to Cobourg in 2008 to be closer to my daughter. She inspired me with her photography and a loan of a camera. Roadtripping with my husband, recording nature, and having the support from my loved ones brought me back and restored my passion for art and living.
I started to paint but it wasn't fulfilling and something was missing.
My daughter gave me a papermaking kit and I was excited by it and began also experimenting with pressed flowers. I further developed it using nature and found objects in a sculptural manner, returning to my roots. With this medium I am able to combine my interest in the environment and art to make a statement!
Last year I moved to a home with beautiful perennial gardens and forests all around. It enabled me to let my imagination go with the unlimited natural palette God has provided. I feel in my element here and it has been very healing and cathartic.
